Pardue then creates the abstract grounds with various water based media, often incorporating graphic elements such as stencils and cut outs, and establishing distinct divisions of space through collaged handmade papers and masked sections of paint.

Once the grounds are complete, Hewett begins painting the realistic, but expressive imagery of the compositions using the historical medium of oil paint.

Carlos Ramirez was born in Cuba. For political reasons his family moved to the United States when he was a child. My parents came to this country with nothing but the clothes in their suitcase.

They gave up a comfortable life that was deteriorating in hopes of a safe future. As an adult I can now admire their courage and determination.

Ramirez always drew and painted, but as the only child of an immigrant family, his parents were concerned that he have a structured profession, rather than take a chance on a career as an artist.

In college he focused on drawing and drafting in the hopes of pursuing an architectural degree, but at the last minute, due to the prodding of his father, he applied to law school.

He received a full scholarship to the University of Miami Law School, where he excelled but soon realized his heart was not in it.

In his last year he left the program to follow a vision of putting a fashion collection together. At age 23, he established the label Liancarlo, and today he is a highly recognized designer in the fashion world.

The label has dressed dozens of celebrities, and his work has been featured in countless fashion magazines. Throughout the years of growing his business, he became a designer by day, painter by night, taking workshops with such greats as painter Wolf Kahn—making time to pursue this passion with the same detailed study and commitment that he brought to building a business.

She studied chemistry and drawing at Arizona State University and has been a consequentially creative force in Phoenix since the s. Her most recent work offers expressive meditations through mark making and color.

The resulting paintings are powerful testaments to the endless variations of nature and the playfulness of the human spirit. His work is hard to pin down, evincing canonical references in his formal techniques and relationship with beauty and music that seem connected with the abstraction of Synchromist artists such as Stanton Macdonald-Wright or Morgan Russell, a movement that predated Abstract Expressionism by 30 years.

These references, though, are mediated by the history of color field painting, at times reaching washy paint handling and breaks between colors reminiscent of Helen Frankenthaler.
